The weather and sea conditions were much better for Dover regatta on Saturday 5th June than last week’s turbulent seas at Worthing. HBARC ladies continue to do well, with great results in the Ladies Junior events. Samantha Epps, Phoebe Shilling, April Towner and Megan Rolph, coxed by James Dawkins, won the Ladies Junior Fours event, then split into two pairs and came third and fourth respectively. The Under-18 quad scull of Amanda Waters, Danielle Greeves, Lydia Potterton and Megan Rolph, coxed by Lauren Greeves, missed out on the win this week after taking first place at the last regatta. Amanda and Lydia went on to take second place in Ladies Double Sculls. Following up on their Viking Shield win last month, Andy Cooper and Ashley Epps came second in Men’s Senior Pairs. Ashley also took second place in Men’s Junior Sculls. Ryan Hosking took 3rd place in Men’s Senior Sculls. Fresh from his gold-medal winning race at the Rowing World Cup, Dan Richie raced in the Men’s Senior Four event along with Andy Cooper, Ben Smissen and Tom Glynn, coxed by Samantha Epps. The HBARC crew were leading going into the turn but Bexhill took the lead coming out. It was a close race to the finish but Bexhill took it by less than a boat length.
After winning their heat, the Men’s Novice four made up of Lawrence Cox, Leyton Potterton, Dave Stevens and Will Campbell, coxed by Lydia Potterton, could only manage second place. Report by Helen Kelly |
