Saturday 3rd November 2007 The end of season Dinner Dance was held in the Ballroom at the Marine Hotel, Tankerton. After dinner there were well received speeches from this year's CARA president Jeremy Holmes and HBARC captain Harry Roberts followed by the awarding of the annual club prizes by Ryan Epps HBARC Chairman as follows:
The Daisy Attwood Trophy for most Junior points- Ian Baker and Jamie Ross-Cummings
The Henry Shepherd Trophy for the most points for the club - Ryan Hoskins and Jamie Ross-Cummings.
The Ken Standon Trophy for the most improved oarsman - Will Mehr.
The Ormistone Memorial trophy for most improved lady rower- Amanda Waters.
The Trevor Horton Trophy for Coxswain of the year - jointly won for the 2nd year by Samantha Epps and George Holness.
The Macket Cup presented for contribution to the club - Mark Davies.

Saturday 8th September 2007 South coast Championship Regatta - victory in the junior regatta for the girls in the J14 quad (first race and first win for the new river boat) , but no more silverware in the coastal championship races that followed. [click here for a belated report]

Sunday 19th August Bexhill Regatta - what should have been the last Regatta of the season was cancelled again following an unfavourable weather forecast - so with no more racing the season ends with the Senior 4 and the Vet 4 qualifying for the South coast Championships in a few weeks time

Saturday 18th August Worthing Regatta cancelled for the 2nd time this year due to the weather - will not be rescheduled again

Saturday 11th August Brighton & Hove Regatta - I missed this one (as did a few others) and haven't got a report yet

Sunday 5th August Folkestone Regatta - 2nd place for the veteran 4 and the Senior 4 - some more details in the August Newsletter.

Saturday 28th July Deal Regatta - A win for the Novice Four and for Andy Cooper in Junior sculls - a few more details in this brief report

21st - 22nd July Nat Champs - our senior 4 were the only CARA crew entered in the open coastal race but came fourth overall. In second place was HB's Lewis Iddenden rowing for BTC. HB's Dan Ritche (rowing for Reading Uni) came second in open sculls. See Nat Champs website for details.

20th July Some people watching the international rowing last weekend were surprised at the amount of "back-splashing". Apparently it's all the rage on the river (or lake) and someone's studied it in depth click here for all the details (pdf file)

Saturday 11th November 2006 Another end of season was celebrated by many members and guests at the Dinner and Dance in the Ballroom at the Marine Hotel, Tankerton. After the usual eating, drinking, toasts and speeches led by MC Paul Kelly the annual club prizes were awarded by our own Paul Monroe CARA President for 2006 and Ryan Epps HBARC Chairman as follows:

Saturday 21st October 2006 The annual CARA dinner was held near Eastbourne this year. A dozen Herne Bay representatives attended to pick up half a dozen trophies. Hopefully have more of a report soon

Saturday 16th September - The 50th South Coast Championships. No silverware this year but some spirited performances from the four Herne Bay crews competing. See details here

Eastbourne Regatta Ladies S4 win and Mens S4 2nd place confirm their places at the south coast champs. A win for Richard in Senior Sculls was the only other highlight. Some controversy in other events especially with the starts - more details later....

Sponsered Bike Ride Much money has been raised to buy a much needed new river boat for the South Coast Champs - this year at Dartmouth.
Due to the prevailing wind the ride started at Worthing visiting all the CARA clubs on the way back to Herne Bay. Nearly 20 riders finished the 1st day stopping over at Bexhill for a well-earned rest on the Saturday night (a couple got as far as Herne Bay in 1 day)
Bad weather on Sunday forced some early retirements

The Viking Shield Regatta Herne Bay retained the shield (so will host the event again next year) and won Senior Fours at the pre-season Regatta - [click here for more details]

Women's Head of the River Race As you may already have read on the discussion forum Natalie, Helen Bell and Emily took part in this major eights race and their composite coastal crew came 4th in their class.

Henley Royal Regatta The HB senior crew qualified for the1st round of the Britannia Challenge Cup last Friday. Out of 29 entries they reached the last 16 but were beaten today by 1 3/4 lengths by UTS Haberfield RC of Australia.(The only other coastal crew, Bexhill, went out on the same day).

Viking Shield Regatta Cancelled Strong northerly winds led to the decision to cancel the regatta early today. The Viking Shield race will now take place at Herne Bay regatta, rather than holding a separate Viking Shield regatta. It will be combined with the men's senior pairs, so the first Kent club across the line wins the Viking Shield
